Town planning commissioners unanimously approved a new affordable-housing development despite the neighborhood’s shortage of parking. The Jackson Planning Commission voted last week to recommend the Town Council approve the development on Hall Avenue.

The Jackson Town Council will hear at its meeting tonight the first reading of an ordinance that would increase the amount of affordable housing required for residential developments to 25 percent, up from the current requirement of 15 percent.

Town councilors today are expected to discuss increasing employee-housing mitigation rates for commercial developments. The Jackson Planning Commission is recommending rates increase an average of 33 percent for each type of development but “restaurant/bar/pub,” “flex space” and “commercial retail.”
