The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors monthly UK Housing Market Survey, published today, has found the number of buyers dropped in January for the first time in 14 months. New instructions fell for the first time in seven months.

The National Housing Federation has calculated 122,700 homes will be built between April 2009 and March 2010, the lowest total for a non-war year since 86,000 were built in 1923/24.

The Scottish Parliament approved its government’s budget for 2010/11 this week, which sets total spend for housing and regeneration at £448 million. This is a drop of £178.7 million from the £626.7 million allocated last year.
